Lili Reinhart, who came out as bisexual in June, believes that no one is completely straight.
“I guess, coming out is not a nonchalant thing,” 24-year-old Reinhart said on Tuesday’s episode of the “LGBTQ&A” podcast. “It just didn’t seem like a big deal to me. And it also, the way I look at the world right now, I’m like, ‘Isn’t everyone bisexual?’”
Over the summer, the “Riverdale” actress first revealed her bisexuality after announcing that she would be attending an LGBTQ for Black Lives Matter protest in West Hollywood.
“Although I’ve never announced it publicly before, I am a proud bisexual woman,” she said at the time in an Instagram post.
Reinhart told the podcast that while she always wanted to come out, she was afraid of how people would react.
“I’ve wanted people to know that I am bisexual, but I’ve never felt that there was a right time to do it,” she said. “I was afraid of coming out. I didn’t want people to tell me that I was lying to get attention or something. And so I just kept my mouth shut.”
She added, “Also I’ve told people in the past and they’ve told me, ‘Oh, it’s a phase.’ And I’m like, ‘Okay, great, thanks.’ So that’s discouraging, obviously.”
But the actress said that she’s proud of her decision to come out and not make a big deal out of it.
“It’s not a secret. It’s not something that I was ever ashamed of. And I felt like in that moment, I wanted to show my full support for this community,” she said. “And the fact that I belong to it, it was very freeing in that sense. It felt very much like, ‘Yeah, I’m here. I’ve been here the whole time. I am part of this.’
Reinhart previously dated Cole Sprouse for three years before breaking up in May.
